LANSING - In an effort to encourage our students to pursue higher education for the betterment of both themselves and our state, State Representative Rebekah Warren (D-Ann Arbor) has announced that she will award two $500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who currently reside in the 53rd district; plan to attend a university, college, technical or trade school; and return the completed application and essay by Friday, May 25th.
"Without question, education is the gateway to opportunity and the key to a successful future," Warren said. "One of the central tenets of my campaign was making higher education more affordable and accessible to all. While I remain wholly committed to maintaining and increasing state funding, I also want to do my part to ensure that our students receive the education they need to compete in our global economy."
The scholarship money will come out of her Envision Michigan Fund, which was established to in order to better promote progressive policies, educational opportunities and active citizenship in our state.
"Our youth provide our greatest resource and hope for the future of Michigan. I have founded this scholarship in an effort to support those young people who want to help lead us to a stronger and more vibrant tomorrow," Warren said.
High school counselors and principals in the 53rd district have been notified about the scholarship and have copies of the necessary application form. Students can also access the form electronically at http://053.housedems.com/ and www.rebekahwarren.com. For more information, please call 517-373-2577 or email rebekahwarren@house.mi.gov.
